Mikel Allen has been teaching at Washington State University College of Nursing since 2007. Her love is for teaching the Human Experience of Culture and Diversity course and the psychiatric mental health clinical. She has also taught health assessment, medical surgical clinical, and helped with one of the professional development courses.  Currently Mikel is co-coordinating the senior practicum course and she teaches medical surgical clinical for a local community college.

Mikel spends a lot of her free time volunteering and working with people that are underserved.  She volunteers with World Relief, an organization that helps resettle refugees. During the summer of 2012, Mikel spent two months in Burundi Africa teaching nursing students and working with nurses and doctors.  If you are interested in reading about her experience in Burundi, you can check out her blog from the trip.
